This gene encodes a member of the transglutaminase family.The encoded protein catalyzes formation of protein cross-linksbetween glutamine and lysine residues, often resulting instabilization of protein assemblies. This reaction is calciumdependent. Mutations in this gene have been associated with acralpeeling skin syndrome.
