Ghrelin, a growth hormone (GH)-releasing acylated peptide, was identified as the endogenous ligand for the growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor 1a. It stimulates the release of GH from the anterior pituitary thro μgh the GH secretagogue receptor (GHS-R). It may also play a role in regulating the digestive system and energy balance.
