The gene is a member of the inositol-polyphosphate5-phosphatase family. The encoded protein interacts with theras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1, which causestranslocation of the encoded protein to the plasma membrane whereit inhibits clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Alternative splicingresults in multiple transcript variants.
