Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone (By similarity).

NDUFA11 encodes a subunit of the membrane-boundmitochondrial complex I. Complex I is composed of numerous subunitsand functions as the NADH-ubiquinol reductase of the mitochondrialelectron transport chain. Mutations in this gene are associatedwith severe mitochondrial complex I deficiency. Alternate splicingresults in multiple transcript variants.
