This gene encodes a protein-disulfide isomerase. Itsexpression is induced by hypoxia and its role may be to protecthypoxic cells from apoptosis. Alternative splicing results inmultiple transcript variants. Read-through transcription alsoexists between this gene and the neighboring upstream MUTED (mutedhomolog) gene.
