The protein encoded by this gene recognizes the sequenceCCTTGAG along with other members of the HMG-box class DNA-bindingproteins. It acts during chondrocyte differentiation and, withsteroidogenic factor 1, regulates transcription of theanti-Muellerian hormone (AMH) gene. Deficiencies lead to theskeletal malformation syndrome campomelic dysplasia, frequentlywith sex reversal.
