This gene encodes a retinoic acid-responsive protein. Ahomologous protein in mouse has been shown to be involved in theregulation of meiotic initiation in both spermatogenesis andoogenesis, though feature differences between the mouse and humanproteins suggest that these homologs are not entirely functionallyequivalent. It is thought that this gene may play a role inspermatogenesis in humans.
